On July 6th a mobile game changer (pun intended) was released that has effectively changed the way we will look at marketing forever. We will call it location-based gaming — sure it has been around a while via games such as Ingress, Geocaching, and a few others but now the “game” has truly changed.
A short history without boring you to death: On February 27th, 1996 the first in a long series of Pokemon games came out for the Nintendo Game boy, following the games the Pokemon trading cards were released in 1999 when I was 20 years old. The trading cards became insanely popular among teens especially, but who knew they were still so popular in 2016?!?!?… I sure didn’t until recently before the release of Pokemon Go, all 5 of my best friends kids and 3 of my brother’s kids were showing off their Pokemon cards and collections to me. Needless to say I was surprised watching them wheel and deal their cards and play a game I thought was dead…… Then….. Pokemon Go came out.
