Kat is one of our content creators. A lot of her writing time is taken up with websites, special projects and whatever else the boss happens to throw her way. Kat’s background is in graphic design and got her degree at Cal State San Bernardino. When not at work Kat is raising her two beautiful children, spending time with her husband and is actively involved at her church. We asked her some questions so you can get to know her, here are her answers:
Q: What’s your favorite song from the 90’s?
A: I do not have just one favorite so basically it’s… Anything Boys 2 Men, TLC, Whitney Houston, No Doubt, Usher, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey… I honestly listened to everything.
Q: What is your hot beverage of choice?
A: Coffee, sweet and creamy.
Q: What is your emotional response to the color yellow?
A: Happy of course.
Q: What is the weirdest pet you have ever had?
A: I’ve only ever had dogs. Chow Chows with their purple tongues and fat furry bodies and snorty smooshy faces are the best. Honestly, any dog is my favorite, I want a million of them. I am the type of person that yells “puppy!” when seeing any dog and wants to cuddle them. You will find me talking baby talk to the local dog at any given time.
Q: If you could have a conversation with anyone, alive or dead, who would it be?
A: J.K. Rowling… because Harry Potter. She is lovely, generous and obviously creative and smart. #awesomeness
Q: What was your favorite TV show growing up?
A: In Living Color, anything Disney, Saturday morning cartoons, Bill Nye the Science Guy. Favorite movies growing up… Aladdin & The Color Purple.
Q: If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose?
A: Professor X’s psychic powers
Q: What does your name mean/does it suit you?
A: I go by Kat or Kathy and it is short for Kathleen. I feel like Kat suits me more than my formal name because I cannot say it. To me, it is a tongue twister.
Q: What gets you out of bed in the morning?
A: Coffee and sometimes more unpleasant things like alarm clocks and kids yelling “mom, get up!”
Q: Do you have any irrational fears?
A: I do not like the dark and I do not like big bodies of water for the same reasons… there are monsters in there. And yes, I am a grown up. haha
Q: What would the title of your memoir be?
A: A Beautiful Mess
Q: If you were a color, what would you be and why?
A: Yellow because it’s bright, inviting and happy.
Red because it is the color of passion and anger.
Green because it is fresh, fun and it makes me think of my littles. Also because green and red are Christmas colors and the holidays just make me happy.
Q: What are three things still left on your bucket list?
A: Write a children’s book and a poetry book
Travel the world.
Have my own coffee shop.
Q: Who was your favorite teacher and why?
A: Mrs. Lentz – 3rd grade – Dolland Elementary School in Norwalk, CA
She opened my eyes to writing and art. I still have the poetry book she gave me… Gonna Bake Me a Rainbow Poem.
Q: What did you want to be when you grew up?
A: An artist and writer.
Q: Which three words best describe you?
A: Happy, talkative, creative
Q: If you could travel in time, would you go to the past or the future? Why?
A: To the past and tell my younger self to have courage to be different. That weird is wonderful and to embrace your gifts because they make you unique.
Q: How would you like to be remembered?
A: As a loving mother and wife and that they were those most important things in my life. I hope that my family remembers that I had a heart for others, I shared my story and used my voice for change, brought creative color into this world and that I taught my children with hard work and a lot of love they can change the world.
Q: Do you have any random pastimes you enjoy?
A: I love to craft, write (of course), sing to all Disney movies and play video games. I am a huge nerd at heart.
Q: How would you describe what you do at work to a child?
A: I write. I use words and make sentences that make others shine.
